Ronald Wilson Reagan, Aquarius, Republican, film and television actor, football hero, military serviceman, former Screen Actors Guild President, and once-Governor of California, was elected as the 40th President of the United States in 1980. He served two terms in office which were marked by the intensification of American anti-communist sentiment, economic deregulation and supply-side “Reaganomics”, the Iran-Contra affair, the invasion of Grenada, the signing of the INF treaty for arms reduction with Russia, an escalation of the War on Drugs in the US, and the ending of the Cold War. He is credited with ideologically revitalizing the American Right, accelerating our habits of privatization and laissez-faire economic policies, taking a hard stance against social and welfare programs, and popularizing tax cuts and fiscal conservatism. He still remains one of the most beloved and highly-regarded Presidents in American public opinion polls.
